One in three people have struggled to find an NHS dentist, according to a new poll.
A total of 35% of people said they had difficulty finding an NHS dentist at some point while 43% had been put off because they were worried about the cost.
The survey of more than 1,000 people was carried out for Simplyhealth, which provides private dental insurance.
A breakdown of the figures showed that more than half of the people in Plymouth had found it difficult to get an NHS dentist, followed by 45% in Southampton and 43% in Manchester.
During 2009, companies within the Simplyhealth group will lose their own trading names and individual products and be collectively known as Simplyhealth. The companies include HSA, BCWA, LHF, and HealthSure.
