Devinder Singh Bansi is a leading London gastroenterologist and interventional endoscopist offering expert diagnosis and treatment for conditions such as diarrhoea, dyspepsia, coeliac disease, bowel cancer, ulcerative colitis, peptic ulcer disease, liver disease, Barrett's oesophagus and gallstones. He is based at One Welbeck Street, Marylebone, London, W1G OAR.
Training and experience
Devinder Singh Bansi qualified from Southampton University Medical School in 1988. After completing professional junior medical posts in the Wessex region (Portsmouth, Southampton and Winchester) he was awarded membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP). In 1993 he was appointed Research Fellow in Gastroenterology at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
Dr Bansi's MD thesis on Immunological Mechanisms in Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis was awarded in 1996. He also published a number of research papers, in peer reviewed internationally acclaimed journals.
In 1996, Dr Bansi returned to London as a Senior Specialist Registrar on the North Thames East rotation and received further comprehensive training in therapeutic gastroscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP at the Middlesex Hospital. During this rotation he also trained in oesophageal physiology at the Royal London Hospital, and then worked as the Resident Medical Officer at Whipps Cross and Newham General Hospitals.
Dr Bansi completed his training in gastroenterology and general medicine in 1998. In 1999 he was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Medicine to the Hammersmith Hospital NHS Trust and the Royal Postgraduate Medical School (now part of Imperial College).
Dr Bansi is now one of the senior and leading interventional endoscopists at the Trust. He is also one of London’s foremost experts in bariatric endoscopy procedures for weight loss and works with the leading London Weight Centre.
He is actively involved in a number of UK and international studies investigating methods of achieving weight loss using endoscopy rather than surgical methods.
As well as English, Dr Bansi is fluent in Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu, and would be happy to consult with patients who speak these languages.
