Ali Phillips: Consultant Hand, Wrist and Elbow Surgeon in Hampshire

Training and experience

Mr Ali Phillips undertook his Higher Surgical Training in hand, wrist and elbow surgery in Devon and Cornwall, before going on to complete Fellowship training at the world-renowned Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby.  He has been a dedicated hand surgeon since 2014 and has gained specialised experience at leading centres worldwide, including training in Wide Awake Hand Surgery, an innovative technique that allows many procedures to be performed in a more comfortable manner without the need for sedation or general anaesthesia.

Ali was a Consultant Trauma and Upper Limb Surgeon at the Major Trauma Centre at University Hospital Southampton from 2016 – 2023, a role that involved him dealing with the most complex of cases.  He has served on the Education Committee of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and on the Exam Committee of the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT).

Ali has published 15 peer-reviewed articles and lectures internationally on the Hand and Wrist, particularly on Wide Awake Hand Surgery, and is a contributor to the definitive book on the subject. He has won prizes for his educational videos and is an active educator and mentor to surgeons and orthopaedic sales teams in the UK.

A recognised innovator and entrepreneur, Ali is committed to finding ways to make life better for his patients, friends and colleagues. He is Chief Medical Officer for Aurora Medical, an orthopaedic implant company that is currently working with the University of Southampton, and for Ortho Consulting Group which assists orthopaedic companies worldwide.
