Mr Dipak N Parmar: Experienced Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon in London, Harrow and Essex
Dipak Parmar is an experienced consultant ophthalmic surgeon with a practice in general ophthalmology and subspecialty interests in cornea, uveitis, cataract and refractive surgery. A fellowship-trained refractive surgeon, he offers the most up-to-date treatments for the correction of vision, including LASIK, LASEK and phakic intraocular lens transplantation. He also provides procedures such as intravitreal injections for age-related macular degeneration and other retinal conditions, as well as selective laser trabeculoplasty and iSTENT surgery for glaucoma.
Training and experience
Mr Dipak Parmar first completed a medical retina and uveitis clinical fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, from 2002-2003. He then undertook a further clinical fellowship in cornea, external diseases and refractive surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, USA, from 2003-2005. Mr Dipak Parmar has authored over 44 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has written 3 book chapters.
Mr Dipak Parmar was awarded the CCST (Certificate of Completion of Surgical Training) and specialist registration under the General Medical Council in ophthalmology in 2003. Mr Parmar is now in full-time independent medical practice, having been a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Whipps Cross University Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust, from January 2006 to August 2017. He further maintains his links with the NHS by continuing to provide his expertise on a sessional basis.
Mr Dipak Parmar was awarded the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO) in September 2011. This has allowed him to work in Australia, where he recently spent a busy season treating a large volume of general ophthalmology patients needing cataract surgery, intravitreal therapies for medical retina and interventions for glaucoma including selective laser trabeculoplasty as well as iSTENT surgery.
Expertise
As a fellowship-trained refractive surgeon, Mr Parmar incorporates laser and non-laser approaches to vision correction treatment. Laser correction includes wavefront customisation where indicated, combined with LASIK, LASEK or PRK. He also performs phakic intraocular lens insertion, known as the implantable contact lens, in patients with high myopia or thin corneas that are unsuitable for laser vision correction surgery. Mr Parmar regularly performs state-of-the-art modern phacoemulsification cataract surgery and has a wide depth of experience in both straightforward and complex cataract surgical cases. In addition to standard monofocal intraocular lens implants (IOLs), he can also offer a variety of premium IOLs to render independence from spectacles for all distances of vision. This includes a wide range of multifocal, monofocal and enhanced monofocal implants.
Mr Dipak Parmar specialises in the treatment of keratoconus using ultraviolet collagen cross-linking of the cornea with riboflavin to stabilize the disease. He is also certified in using intracorneal ring segments such as INTACS® which can improve vision in advanced cases.
