In November 2010, after seeing rave reviews posted to Dr. Tezcan's website, I decided to visit him during my vacation to Turkey for some needed dental care. My regular dentist sent xrays and told me that I needed 2 new crowns and 1 large filling. Dr. Tezcan convinced me that I ought to get at least 6 crowns. In one day's visit, he prepped all 6 teeth, and sent me out into the streets of Istanbul without temporary teeth covering the painful tooth stubs and nerves. He told me temporary teeth would not let the wounded teeth heal! Three days later, I returned to have the 6 new teeth installed. After sitting around for over an hour in the living room of his home office, his "technician' finally arrived with the teeth. The crowns were quickly cemented into place with very little fitting. The technician was clearly concerned about the size and color of one of the crowns, but they decided to proceed anyway. I was surprised by how little concern there was about the fitting process. This was quite different from what I have experienced in getting crowns in the past. I was told that the discomfort would subside over the next couple of weeks. I proceeded on my vacation to other parts of Turkey with aching teeth. After two weeks, when I returned to Istanbul, I decided to once more visit Dr. Tezcan because the new crowns were still uncomfortable and giving me headaches. He did a short "check" of fit with the standard blue tapping paper, did a little drilling, and declared that the crowns fit perfectly.
During December after returning home, I continued to hope that my discomfort was simply based on having attempted to have 6 teeth done at once. However, I continued to experience blinding headaches. Finally, in January I went to my regular dentist. He took another set of complete xrays and discovered that all 6 of the new crowns were too large and fit down over my gums in a way that created pockets where bacteria could grow. In addition, one of the teeth had been drilled down below the nerve line exposing the nerve to temperature sensitivity. The only solution was to completely replace all 6 crowns! And the exposed nerve problem was impossible to fix perfectly, so thit will continue to be a problem for the rest of my life. One of the teeth already had caries growing in the bacteria gap left by the badly fitting crown.
I wrote to Dr. Tezcan and explained my problem. His response was that he had done a good job, and that my regular dentist was at fault in his analysis of my problem. He showed no concern with my continued pain or terrible headaches. His "solution" was to have a new set of crowns made from the original impressions he has at his office, and send them to me. If the first crowns didn't fit, why would he think another set made from the same molds would fit properly??? He certainly didn't offer to compensate me in any way from my pain, my lost vacation time, or even for the money I paid him. I am sorry to say that I could never recommend Dr. Tezcan. He is a charming man; but my experiences of his dental skills were definitely negative.
