I am not at my best in hospitals, having a severe case of White Coat Syndrome, but these guys made sure that a potentially unpleasant and uncomfortable experience went as smoothly as possible, were calm and reassuring and were respectful of my dignity and privacy.

Cannot fault my treatment at the Oaks. The Nurses were excellent and very informative and hygiene standards excellent. My Consultant Mr Wardle was very personable and gave me full confidence in his treatment as did the Anaesthetist. In my view the NHS patients who get to use this hospital are very fortunate!

The initial consultation with Mr Britto went well, I had every confidence he would achieve the outcome I desired. I chose Mr Britto as the surgery that I required is one of his specialities.
The care that I received at The Oaks was excellent, nothing was too much trouble and everybody was very polite and attentive.
Following surgery, my eyelids were very red from the incision to the eyelash line. I was told that this would fade over time and to some extent this has been the case, my eyelids are however still discoloured and the scars where the incisions were made are still obvious as this is where the redness begins so somewhat disappointed in that regard. Now that the excess skin has been removed and, although the eyelids are not millimetre perfect, I think that overall it was worth having the surgery.

THE APPROACH BY THE RECEPTION TEAM, THE OUT PATIENT TEAM AND MOST OF THE WARD STAFF WAS GOOD. THE CONSULTANT VERY GOOD.

BUT I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I NOTE THAT THERE IS A NEW MANAGEMENT TEAM AT THE OAKS - BOTH MANAGER AND MATRON. I MAY NOW CHANGE MY MIND AND ATTEND THE OAKS FOR ANY NECESSARY TREATMENT/SURGERY ETC I MAY (UNFORTUNATELY REQUIRE IN THE FUTURE) RATHER THAN USE ANOTHER HOSPITAL HAVING DETERMINED THIS CHANGE. SORRY - BUT THE OUTGOING TEAM WERE NOT VERY IMPRESSIVE!!! AND NOT VERY MANAGERIAL!!! THEIR COMPLAINT HANDLING WAS POOR TO SAY THE LEAST. THE HOSPITAL ENVIRONMENT WAS IN NEED OF A SIGNIFICANT REFURBISHMENT PROGRAMME AS IT LOOKED TIRED AND JADED. I BELIEVE THAT THE DECOR/FURNITURE WAS THE SAME AS WHEN I WAS INVOLVED IN THE VERY EARLY DAYS OF THE COMMISSIONING OF THE HOSPITAL.

As a private "customer" to the Oaks I was extremely unimpressed with the lateness of my appointment, I arrived in plenty of time and gave the receptionist my details at no point was it mentioned that my consultant was running late!! I appreciate timings my be approximate but when I was eventually called it was over an hour late!! A cursory apology was offered. My consultant was pleasant enough but it would be polite and good manners to inform people of any delay!

Very pleased with the treatment my husband received from mr. McRae. However, I am horrified by lack of care from the nursing staff. I phoned to complain and the admin person said they would put me through to a manager, a staff nurse rang me back as I understand that the ward sister was one of the members of staff who my husband felt had been dismissive and unhelpful was funnily enough in a meeting. If you are high and mighty enough to treat people like that then please have the decency to speak to them yourself when they complain instead of asking a junior colleague to do it for you. Perhaps you were concerned that when my husband asked for cotton wool that you said you didn't have any and that mr McRae usually supplies it! Or was it because you failed to show care and compassion towards a patient who left your ward covered in blood because he was too worried to ask for a towel to have a shower as there was only a hand towel in the shower room. My other concern is that he was advised to use his ear drops in his eyes, come on he had ent surgery! Never again will we come to the oaks, I will be taking this matter further as I do not feel that asking a junior colleague to ring back for you is appropriate, you need to be accountable for your own unprofessional attitude.

I had reason to go into the Oaks from surgery on a hernia I was treated by Mr Menzies who was really great as was all the support staff I was able to get this done within a week of me going for consultation which was brilliant the food was very good and the nursing excellent I chose an overnight stay which was a great help. I will strongly reccomend

The Oaks experience was good and welcoming. Appointments were on time with few waits and the staff friendly. What was exceptional was the anaesthetic\operation room assistant who escorted me to surgery. He was one of the calmest and nicest people I have ever met, and made me feel secure in an otherwise alien situation.

Overall if hospital care is needed it should be like this. The food was good too!

I had been aware of a slight swelling in the groin area for some time, but some strenuous relief work after floods and an earthquake exacerbated the condition and also made me aware of a second swelling, so I flew back from the Philippines to attend the Oaks. I had a two week window in which to get treated. During the examination by my former GP, necessary in order to get a referral, the GP also suspected that the red marks on my hands and legs may be Bowens Disease, so a referral was made for both general surgery and dermatology.The appointments, examinations, admission, treatment, surgery and post care were all seemless and happened very quickly. I cannot praise those involved too highly. The Bowens Disease was treated with liquid nitrogen at 9 a.m., and by 11 a.m. I was in surgery for the double hernia repair. I stayed overnight, and during that time the care, consideration and attention I received from everyone was second to none, Within one week of surgery I was flying back to the Philippines with a vastly improved quality of life. My very grateful thanks to the Dermatologist, Dr. Shuttleworth, for the prompt and successful treatment that he provided, and to Professor Roger Motson for his unquestionable surgical skill and expertise. You both changed my life from existing to enjoying.

The Hospital is clean and most staff very friendly, however I had to arrive at the hospital very early in the morning and did not have my surgery until about five hours after arrival which seems a long time to sit and wait and get even more nervous.

When I woke after the operation I was given tea and a sandwich, however that was it I did not see anyone again for hours and certainly no second cuppa was coming my way. When I did eventually see someone they said they would get my discharge papers ready, two hours later I had to chase as again the nurse had disappeared.

The above must seem a little silly to some but when your medical company are paying premium rates for a high standard of care I do think things could have been a little better and to be honest sitting in a room for hours on your own not knowing whats happening does play games with your head!
