BMI Healthcare acquires nine new hospitals

BMI Healthcare has acquired nine hospitals across England, it has emerged.

The private healthcare group has purchased hospitals in Birmingham, Bury St Edmonds, north London, Gerrards Cross, Harrogate, Huddersfield, Lancaster, Lincoln and Nottingham from Nuffield Hospitals.

Each of the hospitals will soon be re-branded, bringing them in line with the rest of the BMI Healthcare portfolio, which now boasts 58 hospitals.

Adrian Fawcett, chief executive of General Healthcare Group, of which BMI Healthcare is a subsidiary, said: "Staff and consultants working in each of these hospitals have established reputations within their local communities, and I am confident that we can continue to provide even better personalised, proactive and preventative care for patients in these areas."

Trish Cassidy, commercial director of Nuffield Hospitals, said that the choice of buyer "wasn't just about the price a buyer was willing to pay".

"We also needed to be confident that the buyer had the capability and resources to take good care of these hospitals from day one," she explained, adding that General Healthcare Group "emerged as a clear winner".
