BMI surgeon in top 10 knee replacement surgeons in the UK

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Neil Thomas, who practices at BMI The Hampshire Clinic, has been chosen as one of the UK’s top 10 knee replacement surgeons in a survey conducted by the Daily Mail.

The survey, which canvassed 40 leading knee surgeons, asked just one simple question: ‘If your nearest and dearest were to need knee replacement, to whom would you refer them and why?’ The surgeons named Mr Thomas as one of their top 10. In the Daily Mail article that announced the survey, fellow surgeons said the following of Mr  Thomas: “[He is] an excellent and thoughtful surgeon. He won't go for the latest trends in implants unless he's convinced by thorough research that his patients will benefit.”

Mr Thomas was deeply flattered by the accolade, and also explained the importance of his field. “It can often been a real struggle for our patients to carry out simple tasks in their day to day lives, and our job is to do as much as we can as surgeons to help them restore as much movement and motion as possible in their limbs. In doing so, we always strive to deliver the care that we would want our loved ones to receive,” said Mr Thomas. “I am immensely humbled, not only by this recognition, but also by the trust placed in me by my peers.”

Philip O’Ehley, Executive Director of  The Hampshire Clinic added: “Knee reconstruction is a very complex specialty, which not only requires great experience but also a vast amount of skill when advising a patient what procedure will provide the best benefits for them. We are very proud that Mr Thomas has received this distinction. It’s a fantastic honour and much deserved. He is a brilliant surgeon and highly respected by colleagues, staff and patients alike.”

Mr Neil Thomas is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who trained in London at the Royal National Orthopaedic, UCH and Westminster hospitals and has been a Consultant in Hampshire for more than twenty years.  Mr Thomas specialises in all aspects of simple and complex knee surgery including sports related injuries, ligament, meniscus and articular cartilage, as well as primary and revision arthroplasty and osteotomy. He undertakes research at Imperial College and Oxford and teaches and lectures worldwide.
