Consultant Urologist Alan Doherty, who practices at BMI Fitzroy Square Hospital, has been chosen as one of the UK’s top ten outstanding prostate cancer surgeons in a survey conducted by the Daily Mail.

The survey, which canvassed 40 leading urologists, asked just one simple question: If your own nearest and dearest required prostate cancer surgery, to whom would you refer them and why?’

Consultant Urologist Alan Doherty, who practices at BMI Fitzroy Square Hospital, has been chosen as one of the UK’s top ten outstanding prostate cancer surgeons in a survey conducted by the Daily Mail. The survey, which canvassed 40 leading urologists, asked just one simple question: If your own nearest and dearest required prostate cancer surgery, to whom would you refer them and why?’ The surgeons named Mr Doherty as one of their top 10. In the Daily Mail article that announced the survey result, fellow surgeons said the following of Mr Doherty: “He has excellent, published results with the huge number of keyhole surgery operations he’s performed. This means he’s aiming for transparency with his results. He thinks about the anatomy and plans his surgery precisely, being very careful with tissues to preserve the nerves.” Mr Doherty commented, “I was very pleased to receive this vote of confidence from my fellow urologists and to see recognition of my commitment to publishing results and constantly refining surgery in order to achieve the best possible results for patients.” Jane Rooney, Executive Director of Fitzroy Square Hospital added: “Prostate cancer surgery is a very complex specialty, which not only requires great experience but also a vast amount of skill to ensure patients receive the best possible outcomes.
