Training and Experience

Inventor of the Fenestrated Vascular Graft, Consultant Vascular Surgeon, passionate about the safety and health of his patients and founder of the Mid Essex- University Teaching Hospital Lusaka (Out to Africa).

Mr Tom Browne trained as a doctor in 1998 in his native Dublin, Ireland. He is a General and Vascular Surgeon. He did his higher Surgical Training in Ireland, England, Wales and Australia, his Masters and Fellowships in Ireland and England. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons England, and an honorary lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University and Trinity College Dublin.

His research into the small diameter vascular graft with cell harvesting led him to work with Mr Lawrence-Brown in Perth Australia and the subsequent invention of the Fenestrated Graft which is now in use world wide.

Four years before the Francis report was considered, Mr Browne created the Green Ribbon Ward Round initiative in Broomfield hospital; a regular gathering of all relevant departments to ensure the continual safety of every patient in the hospital. The multi disciplinary team, focused on the patients' and hospital's needs, looked at a vertical management structure in a horizontal way, and implemented changes where needed.
