Saga has launched a new Accident Healthcare cover as an add-on to its motor insurance policies, offering the over 50s enhanced protection should they be involved in a road traffic accident. Recent figures from the Department of Transport show that 250,000 people were injured on the roads in the UK, with the majority of these incidents resulting in minor injuries. Saga also knows that ill health is a major cause of stress and anxiety of the over 50s, so has developed this add-on to give their customers the best chance of a speedy recovery. Accident Healthcare is available to all new and existing Saga Motor Insurance customers for the non-emergency treatment of injuries sustained in road traffic accidents in the UK. The plan will provide up to £1 million cover for any private medical treatment recommended by your NHS doctor after and initial emergency treatment resulting from a road traffic accident. It is available for the monthly equivalent of £3.95 a month for individual cover, or the equivalent of £5.45 a month for individuals and their spouse or partner. It covers injuries sustained in your own car, as a driver or passenger in another vehicle or even as a pedestrian or cyclist. The policy covers treatment in any hospital, day patient unit or scanning centre in the UK, including: in-patient treatment in a private hospital (up to 180 days) out-patient treatment consultants' and specialists' fees physiotherapy transfer by private ambulance between an NHS and private hospital of choice, if required Should you be taken to an NHS hospital following the accident, you will also receive: a cash sum of £100 per night spent in an NHS hospital (up to £2,000 per accident) reimbursement for any NHS fixed charges Andrew Goodsell of Saga comments, "Even a minor road accident can require medical treatment that can be a drawn out process.
