BMI minor injuries service celebrates milestone

The team at the Minor Injuries Service at BMI The Blackheath Hospital, which is located on Independents Road, will this month celebrate their second anniversary with the news they have so far successfully treated more than 1,200 patients from the local community.

The service, which opened in 2010, offers cost-effective diagnosis and treatment for minor accidents and injuries on a walk-in basis and is currently open from Monday to Saturday. However, the service has proved so popular that from January it will be open seven days a week with new 8am – 5pm Sunday service.

Speaking on the anniversary and the extended opening time Outpatients Clinical Manager Carole Sibley commented, “No one could have predicted that the Minor Injuries Service at The Blackheath Hospital would have been such a success when it opened two years ago. In that time we have seen many patients come through our doors, from those who experience the everyday mishaps to those with the more serious sporting injuries. With each of our patient we have been able to provide a quick and efficient service meaning that treatment, discharge or onward referral is done so without a lengthy wait. As this unique service continues to go from strength to strength we hope that the new Sunday opening times will further embed the service as a viable alternative to A&E medicine in our local community.”

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr Mark Phillips who works alongside the Minor Injury Service at BMI The Blackheath Hospital, commented, “The minor injuries service provides the local Blackheath community with a service that is able to deal with a wide range of minor medical injuries in a quick and efficient manner. Being a part of The Blackheath Hospital’s wider offering means that the service is backed up by the highest standards of medical care, infrastructure and medical consultants who are on hand to provide care if so required. I’d like to congratulate the team on two successful years the care and attention that they give to patients is truly exemplary and hope that they are able to continue this long into the future.”
