One of the country’s most senior statesmen was guest of honour at the opening of a new Endoscopy Suite at BMI Chiltern Hospital in Buckinghamshire.
Former Foreign Secretary Lord Carrington cut the ribbon to open the unit that has been refurbished and re-equipped at a cost of around £600,000.
He was then shown some of the state-of-the-art equipment that will allow clinicians to carry out detailed examinations of the entire digestive system.
Besides providing razor-sharp images the new scopes also allow ‘real time’ diagnosis so that patients can be kept fully informed of their condition as they are being examined.
BMI Chiltern Executive Director John Pullin said: “The new unit does take us into a new era of endoscopic procedures using opto-digital technology provide more accurate information more quickly than ever before.
“We are very proud of the new Endoscopy Suite and delighted that someone as respected and distinguished as Lord Carrington agreed to open it for us.”
