BMI Healthcare, the UK’s largest independent provider of private healthcare, is developing plans to build a brand new hospital on the Kingston Hospital site.

BMI Healthcare is currently working on building plans as part of the agreement the provider had signed with the Kingston NHS Trust in September 2009. In advance of the new hospital opening, BMI will continue to operate the Trusts’ 22-bed Coombe Wing, a private patients unit located in the Esher Wing of the Kingston Hospital.

BMI, which has more than 70 facilities across the country, has started the investment process required to deliver a state-of-the-art service to the local community and a full planning application is expected shortly. Subject to Kingston Hospital NHS Trust approval and a successful planning bid, it is estimated the upgrade could be finished and doors open for new business by 2012.

A wide variety of medical and surgical conditions are currently treated at the Coombe Wing and these will be transferred to the new hospital when it opens.

Adrian Fawcett, Chief Executive of BMI Healthcare, said: “We are progressing very well with our plans to build a new hospital in Kingston, and we will deliver a modern facility using the latest thinking in hospital design to give our patients the very best care, as well as the very best hospital experience. We are currently in discussion with construction companies and architects about the design and build and the first shovel should hit ground in the near future.”
