Mr Petros Mikalef is a fellowship-trained Consultant Orthopaedic Hand and Spasticity Surgeon based at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, a regional centre for elective hand surgery. He is available for private consultation at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Birmingham. Mr Mikalef is highly experienced in the surgical treatment of hand conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, Dupuytren’s contracture, arthritis of the base of the thumb, trigger finger, ganglions, neuromas and other soft lumps. In addition, his practice involves interventional treatment of focal spasticity of the upper and lower limb in adults and he has been responsible for organising upper and lower limb spasticity MDT clinics at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. He also works closely with the Centre of Peripheral Nerve Surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. Mr Mikalef’s system for surgical neurectomy has been internationally adopted. He is the Principal Investigator in his hospital for the UNDER Study, a national clinical trial comparing the two existing techniques for ulnar decompression surgery. He plays an active role in training and is a recognised tutor for the BSSH Hand Diploma. His research interests involve standardising preoperative assessment and patient-reported outcome measures for spasticity.
