Muthu Ganapathi: Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Knee and Hip Specialist in North Wales
Mr Muthu Ganapathi is a highly experienced hip and knee surgeon in North Wales and Cheshire specialising in knee arthroscopy, knee replacement, hip replacement, hip resurfacing and hip arthroscopy. He uses the latest computer-guided and personalised techniques to ensure that patients get the best possible results.
Experienced surgeon
Mr Ganapathi undertakes general trauma work, but his elective practice in both the NHS and the private sector is almost exclusively related to adult hip and knee problems. He offers private treatment at Spire Yale Hospital, Wrexham.
He is one of the UK’s most experienced surgeons performing custom fit knee replacements.
Rapid recovery
Mr Ganapathi firmly believes in accelerated rehabilitation (rapid recovery) after both hip and knee replacements which can lead to early functional recovery and improved patient satisfaction. He employs various techniques including multi-modal pain control and minimally invasive approaches.

Initial consultation fee: £200
Mr Ganapathi offers expert assessment and treatment for a range of hip and knee problems, including:
- Anterior knee pain (AKP) and chondomalacia patellae
- Osteoarthritis and related disorders
- Rheumatoid arthritis

- Revision knee replacement
Minimally invasive total hip replacement
Mr Ganapathi offers a modified and refined minimally invasive technique, using special instruments to perform the majority of hip replacements through an incision approximately 7cm to 10cm long. Exposure is not compromised in any way and the patient still experiences the benefits associated with less soft tissue dissection.
Expert knee arthroscopy
Mr Ganapathi is skilled in the use of knee arthroscopy to investigate the cause of knee pain and problems such as locking and swelling. A thin fibre-optic tube is introduced into the knee joint via a small incision, sending back images to a monitor screen. As well as being a diagnostic tool, knee arthroscopy has a therapeutic role. Small instruments can be inserted through further small incisions to carry out procedures such as repairing meniscal tears and removing loose pieces of cartilage and bone.
Research interests
Mr Ganapathi has also been involved in a number of research projects and has an extensive list of publications and presentations in scientific meetings. He has won various awards for his research work. He keeps himself updated on recent advances by attending various CME sessions. Mr Ganapathi is also keen in teaching the next generation of surgeons as well as allied health professionals.
What patients say about Muthu Ganapathi
Mr Ganapathi deserves recognition after the success I’ve had following my knee operations. Mr Ganapathi and his team were brilliant. I am really indebted to them. I have absolutely no pain and I feel like a new woman – and that’s me at 85! I read about Mr Ganapthi’s knee operations in the paper. We are all afraid of operations and I had doubts but I thought no I’ve got to do this. I’m very happy with the results and I’m very happy I’ve gone down this route.
