About the London Clinic

History and Heritage

In 1932 The London Clinic opened with the aim of providing exceptional medical care. Since that day nearly 100 years ago, The London Clinic has continued to provide excellent, personalised care for its patients across a range of diseases and conditions.

Charitable Status

The London Clinic is one of only a handful of private hospitals that operate as a charity. This means all their proceeds are re-invested back into the hospital, to advance healthcare for the benefit of patients and the wider community. Their charitable impact includes: providing essential healthcare education, resources and free screenings to those in need; investing in the ongoing improvement of medical facilities through acquiring new state-of-the-art equipment; and supporting the development and training of staff.

World-leading Cancer Care

The award-winning Duchess of Devonshire Wing is one of the most modern and technologically advanced cancer hospitals in the UK, first opened in 2010, by Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Duke of Edinburgh. The hospital offers diagnostic tests and scans, the latest in robotic surgery techniques by expert consultants, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and outstanding palliative care services. The exceptional personalised care and first-class surroundings are reflected in the award of a top score by Macmillan Cancer Support, through its Macmillan Quality Environment Mark award scheme.

The Rapid Diagnostics Centre

In 2024, The London Clinic opened its new Rapid Diagnostics Centre, which is home to four key specialties: BreastUrologyGynaecology and Dermatology, each with a dedicated floor, as well as The London Clinic’s health screening service, and now 24/7 GP services. Early diagnosis is the key to recovery, and The London Clinic endeavours to get you in front of a doctor or consultant within 48 hours.

The Centre has access to the latest imaging technology, including a 3T MRI scanner for more accurate diagnoses, advanced ultrasound, Horizon DECA dual energy X-ray, and contrast enhanced mammography.

The London Clinic also specifically caters to men’s and women’s health through dedicated diagnostic pathways, and personalised healthcare assessment packages.

Europe’s largest Stem Cell Centre

The London Clinic’s haematology facility – located in the cancer centre - is the largest stem cell collection centre in Europe. Working with charities including blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan, over 700 stem cell donations are collected every year and safely stored until needed by patients around the world.

Excellent Intensive Care

The London Clinic is renowned as having London’s leading private intensive care facility, able to support patients with complex and multiple conditions. Opened by Her Majesty Queen Camilla in 2017 the Intensive Care Unit has 13 individual patient beds that have been designed by intensive care specialists to include the latest medical technologies, alongside space and privacy for patients and their loved ones.

The Outreach Team of highly-skilled intensive care nurses provides complete peace of mind, through close monitoring of patients 24/7, and only discharging someone once their health has fully stabilised.

Multi-disciplinary teams

Excellence in patient care involves a multidisciplinary approach, a strength at The London Clinic because of the wide variety of clinical services available to patients. Internationally-renowned consultants, specialist clinical nurses and a large support team of physiotherapists, dieticians and radiologists meet regularly to discuss every patient, ensuring they receive the best care and personalised treatment journeys.

Many of the over 700 consultants and clinical nurse specialists in their multidisciplinary teams are leaders in their fields. They are encouraged to innovate within their areas of practice and share their expertise with the wider healthcare community through research, free training and educational events.

Advancing healthcare

With the growing demand for high-quality healthcare around the world, it is vital that hospitals play their part in supporting advancement. The London Clinic achieves this by contributing to clinical research studies in various fields and supporting other organisations through provision of specialist services.

They also reinvest income into clinical training, enabling nurses to complete specialist degrees, and for fellows to become the next high-achieving consultants.
